Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid Surgery, also knows as Blepharoplasty, is the surgical correction of the aging eye.  The majority of our patients request this procedure because “everyone says I look tired when I’m not.”  This procedure can be performed on the upper eyelid, lower, or both.  Whether your upper eyelids droop or your lower eyelids look puffy, Eyelid surgery is an easy way to rejuvenate your tired looking eyes.

FAQ:

Q:  How long does the procedure take?

A:  Every situation is unique, but generally an upper Blepharoplasty surgery (under local) is about 1-1.5 hours long.  An upper Blepharoplasty surgery (under general) is about 1 hour long, a lower Blepharoplasty surgery (under general) is about 1.5 hours long, and an upper and lower Blepharoplasty surgery (under general) is about 2-3 hours long.

Q:  Will it be performed under local or general anesthesia?

A:  Either.  The use of what kind of anesthesia depends on the patient and will be determined during the initial consultation.

Q:  How long will I be out of work?

A:  Patients may return to work within 1 week.

Q:  What should I expect after my procedure?

A:  Patients may experience some eyelid irritation, bruising, swelling, or tightness.

Q:  Do I need special testing prior to my procedure?

A:  Testing is dependent on the patient’s health history and age.  Testing is ordered for every patient.

Q:  Will this be covered by insurance?

A:  Not typically.  In order to have eyelid surgery covered by insurance, patients are advised to see an ophthalmologist who would perform tests to determine if their vision is obstructed by the condition of their eyelids.

Q:  When can I start exercising after my procedure?

A:  Patients may resume exercising in about 10 days.

Q:  Where will I be having my surgery?

A:   DuPage Medical Group has a fully accredited ambulatory surgery center located in Lombard, IL.  Patients also have the option of having surgery at select local hospitals.  Patients who are deemed appropriate candidates for local anesthesia can have their surgery performed at the Institute of Aesthetic Surgery.

Q:  How much does surgery cost?

A:  Every situation is unique and the cost of surgery depends on several factors.  The duration of the procedure varies on how extensive the surgery is.  The duration will then determine the price of anesthesia and how long the surgical facility will be scheduled for.  In order to provide the most accurate surgical fee estimate, it is necessary to meet with one of our board certified physicians for a consultation.
