Male Breast Reduction

Male Breast Reduction, also known as Gynecomastia, is a common procedure we perform at the Institute of Aesthetic Surgery.  If you feel the need to dress to disguise your appearance, or keep your shirt on at the pool, or the thought of changing in a public locker room makes you feel insecure, a Male Breast Reduction can help.  Physical appearance is important to everyone and having oversized breasts or asymmetry can be very difficult for a man.  By having your breasts surgically reduced, we can restore the confidence you’ve been missing.

Q:  How long does the procedure take?

A:  Every situation is unique, but generally Gynecomastia surgery is about 1.5- 2 hours long depending on individual circumstances and how extensive the procedure is.

Q:  Will it be performed under local or general anesthesia?

A:  General anesthesia.

Q:  How long will I be out of work?

A:  Patients can return to work in 1 week depending on their job duties.

Q:  What should I expect after my procedure?

A:  Patients may experience temporary soreness, swelling, change in nipple sensation, and bruising.  Breasts may be sensitive to stimulation for several weeks.

Q:  Do I need special testing prior to my procedure?

A:  Testing is dependent on the patient’s health history and age.  Testing is ordered for every patient.

Q:  Will this be covered by insurance?

A:  In most cases no.  Patients should contact their insurance company prior to scheduling an aesthetic consultation.

Q:  When can I start exercising after my procedure?

A:  Lower body exercises may resume in 2 weeks and upper body exercises may resume in 6 weeks.

Q:  Where will I be having my surgery?

A:  DuPage Medical Group has a fully accredited ambulatory surgery center located in Lombard, IL.  Patients also have the option of having surgery at select local hospitals.

Q:  How much does surgery cost?

A:  Every situation is unique and the cost of surgery depends on several factors.  The duration of the procedure varies on how extensive the surgery is.  The duration will then determine the price of anesthesia and how long the surgical facility will be scheduled for.  In order to provide the most accurate surgical fee estimate, it is necessary to meet with one of our board certified physicians for a consultation.
